DIRECTOR OF North Vancouver

Stacy Fish

Stacy Fish, Owner/Director

Hello, I am Stacy and I am excited to be opening the next Steamoji Franchise right here in North Vancouver. I have lived in Vancouver for 25 years and on the north shore for the last 14 and it’s the best place I have ever lived. I love the sense of community here and working with young kids to bring out their potential is one of my favorite things.

My work background includes 20 years as an Assistant Director for Film and Television. Being an AD is all about collaborative problem solving and communication. There are around 200 people working on set in over 18 different departments and Assistant Directors coordinate with all of them. I’ve had to figure out how to shoot scenes with everything from babies to grizzly bears, with the cast and crew on the side of a cliff, with real explosions and visual effects…all while keeping things on budget and rescheduling on the fly for weather issues and other complications as they arose. Of course, I didn’t do any of that by myself – I did it by being curious and bringing other people, and their expertise to bear. This is exactly what having an open mindset and embracing challenges is all about.

For the last 10 years I’ve worked in 3D animation as a lighter and compositor. This is a STEM job and it’s why I wanted to get into Steamoji. I wish I had exposure to STEM skills when I was younger. Here in Vancouver, there are really great tax incentives for post-production. As a result, there are thousands and thousands of jobs in visual effects, animation, coding and gaming. All of these jobs revolve around the creative use of computers. Even as an artist, I benefited from being comfortable with technology and knowing a bit about coding - this skill will be indispensable for the jobs of the future.

The next generation will need to be highly adaptable. Entire industries are being turned on their head with new technology and the pace of this change is accelerating. The next generation is going to need coding, math and computer skills in ways that we don’t fully understand yet. I want to help our apprentices develop their confidence at solving problems and I can't wait to see what they create with us.

Steamoji is a dynamic STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program designed to train and inspire the next generation of builders, makers, inventors and entrepreneurs!  In this course, apprentices will further develop their 3D modeling and fabrication skills while designing, prototyping and printing their own action castle game.

Apprentices will explore 3D printing, adding details with a 3D pen and creating designs from scratch using 3D design software. By the end of this mission apprentices will have a fully functioning tabletop game to take home and play. Let's get building!

This is an introductory and accessible course (no prerequisites) where children will get step-by-step instructions in an inclusive and supportive environment for all creators! All materials, computer access, and 3D printing are included, and apprentices will take home everything they create!

We can’t wait to see what your child creates with us.   Let’s get building!

This term, apprentices will dive into the exciting world of coding, electronics, and robotics. Alongside learning essential coding concepts, they will also develop key problem-solving and engineering skills. Guiding them on this journey is Astro Ji, an astronaut preparing for a mission to the Moon!

With Astro Ji’s help, apprentices will explore fundamental concepts in physics such as gravity, movement, and forces - while gaining hands-on experience with motors, power, electricity, and batteries. They’ll bring their learning to life using the VEX GO robotics kit and the VEX Virtual Reality environment. Through these platforms, apprentices will design, code, test, and refine their own programs to control a robotic vehicle they’ve built themselves. This is an accessible, beginner-friendly course with step-by-step guidance in a supportive, inclusive environment. We can’t wait to see what your child creates with us. Let’s get building!
